Bringing Creativity, Nature and Learning Together
In May 2026, Boho Workshops proudly delivered a sold-out Family Beach Terrarium Workshop as part of Doncaster Remake Learning Days. The session brought together children, parents and carers for a hands-on creative experience that combined nature, learning and wellbeing ā and sold out within just two days of being advertised.
Designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and confidence, the workshop gave families the opportunity to slow down, connect and create something beautiful together while learning how to care for living plants.
As a nature-led creative wellbeing business based in South Yorkshire, it was a privilege to be part of a festival that celebrates learning beyond the classroom and encourages families to discover new skills through play, exploration and creativity.
The workshop welcomed up to 15 children alongside their parents and carers, with every participant leaving with their own beach-inspired terrarium and new knowledge about plants, nature and caring for living things.
The workshop achieved a 100% five-star satisfaction rating, with every participant saying they learned something new and every child taking home their own living terrarium to enjoy and care for.

What Is a Beach Terrarium?
A beach terrarium is a miniature living garden created inside a glass container using plants, sand, shells and natural materials.
During the workshop, children learned how to build their own terrarium layer by layer, exploring the science behind healthy plant growth while creating something completely unique to take home.
Using stones, soil, activated charcoal, sand, shells and plants, each child designed their own coastal-inspired world while developing confidence through creativity and hands-on learning.
Learning Through Nature and Creativity
At Boho Workshops, I believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are engaged, curious and having fun.
The Family Beach Terrarium Workshop was designed to encourage exploration, creativity and confidence through three key activities.
šæ Creating the Layers
Children explored different natural materials and discovered how each layer helps create a healthy environment for plants to grow. From drainage stones to nutrient-rich soil, they learned how nature works together to support life.
šØ Being Creative
Every terrarium was completely unique. Children selected decorative materials and designed their own miniature beach scene, encouraging imagination, independence and self-expression.
š± Learning Plant Care
Children learned how to care for their succulent after the workshop, helping them develop responsibility and confidence while nurturing something living at home.

The Impact
One of the most rewarding parts of the day was seeing families creating alongside one another.
Parents and carers didn't simply watch from the sidelines ā they joined in, supported their children and became part of the creative experience.
The workshop achieved:
- Sold out within 2 days
- 100% of participants rated the workshop 5 out of 5
- 100% of participants learned something new
- Parents and carers actively participated alongside children
- Every child took home a completed terrarium
These outcomes demonstrate the value of combining creativity, wellbeing and learning within a family-friendly environment.
What Families Said
The feedback from families was incredibly encouraging.
"It was a wonderful session. Thank you for your enthusiasm and providing a creative and interesting activity."
"Had so much fun! The creativity and the chance to be independent."
"Learning how to create and care for a terrarium and take something beautiful home."
Hearing children talk excitedly about their creations and seeing families leave with smiles, new knowledge and a terrarium they were proud of made the day truly special.
